Staff of Elemental Essence
Staff that enhances elemental spell casting
It is a finely carved wooden staff with a glass orb at one end. The orb is attached by four claws that separate the orb into four visible quadrants. Each quadrant of the orb swirls with a different element: fire, air, water and earth.
Wearer requirements: Wearer must have Attunement skill.
Base properties: The wielder is granted a unique scaling option for any elemental spells he knows: +5 PP specify a new elemental damage type (e.g. this allows the caster to cast a fireball that uses the cold critical table instead of the fire critical table). Once per day the wielder can double the effects of a scaling option for an elemental spell at no additional PP or rank requirements. Also, acts as a +10 focus item as well as a +1 spell adder and a +1 PP adder. It provides a +5 Magic RR versus any elemental attacks or it can be tuned to +10 Magic RR versus a specified element (can be changed once per round).
Bonus properties increase in relation to the wielder’s Attunement skill ranks.
9 ranks: increase bonus to a +2 spell adder and a +2 PP adder.
12 ranks: Double scaling effect can be used 2x per day.
15 ranks: increase bonus to a +3 spell adder and a +3 PP adder.
18 ranks: Elemental Magic RR bonus increases to +10, or +15 RR versus a specified element.
21 ranks: increase bonus to a +4 spell adder and a +4 PP adder.
24 ranks: Double scaling effect can be used 3x per day.
27 ranks: increase bonus to a +5 spell adder and a +5 PP adder.
30 ranks: Elemental Magic RR bonus increases to +15, or +30 RR versus a specified element.
The staff was constructed by a Thaumaturge in four arcane forges, each located in one of the prime elemental planes. The staff was imbued with the power of the primal essences and held together with a powerful magic.
