Silk cloak of stealth
It is a plain hooded gray or black, silk cloak that appears to be well worn. It is magical and will size itself to fit any wearer between 3’ and 8’ tall, of any girth. Once the cloak is donned the user is aware of its abilities.
Wearer requirements: None – only wearers with Ambush skill may use the bonus properties.
Base Properties: The cloak blends with the surrounding environments to give a magic bonus of +5 to to Stalking & Hiding skill checks, as well as a bonus +1 to Ambush skill ranks. While the wearer is in shadowy illumination it provides a +5 DB bonus. In combat it grants the wearer combat advantage (+15 OB) when attacking from shadowy illumination (or darker).
Bonus Properties: The wearer becomes aware of the magic pockets of holding and only he can access them while wearing the cloak (cannot be pick pocketed) – each pocket holds the equivalent of a backpack and the encumbrance of items within are calculated at 1/10. The magic of the cloak guides the wearer’s hand so that the correct item is always withdrawn from the pockets. Additional abilities scale with the user’s Stalking skill ranks.
9 ranks: increase to +10 DB and Stalking/Hiding skill check bonuses. Ambush rank bonus increases to +2. When falling, the cloak unfurls lowering the wearer safely to the ground (height limit TBD) – the wearer moves in a straight line down. This ability can be used x1/day. 15 ranks: increase to +15 DB and Stalking/Hiding _ skill check bonuses. _Ambush rank bonus increases to +3.
21 ranks: increase to +20 DB and Stalking/Hiding _ skill check bonuses. _Ambush rank bonus increases to +4. The wearer can control the cloak’s shape while falling allowing him to glide at (speed TBD). Wearer can chose to Featherfall or Glide up to x2/day.
27 ranks: increase to +25 DB and Stalking/Hiding _ skill check bonuses. _Ambush rank bonus increases to +5.
33 ranks: increase to +30 DB and Stalking/Hiding _ skill check bonuses. _Ambush rank bonus increases to +6. The wearer can move among shadows – it allows the user to teleport to any location in shadowy illumination or darker that he can see within 100’. Wearer can chose to Featherfall, Glide or Teleport up to x2/day.
The thread is spun from the silk of phase spiders through a special process only known to the elves and mastered by the drow. Spells of darkness are woven into the cloak as it is made. Only the most notable assassins and thieves are gifted with these cloaks. Elvish cloaks have a grey neutral state, while drow versions have a black neutral state.
